LOOKING FOR 2010 DEMO HOSTS

Somehow, we made this season work with some poor attendance, and some great turnouts! Next year, I'd like to continue with the beekeeping demonstrations in the Islands, but this time at your place... If you are interested in having members of our club and/or the public join you while an enthusiastic mentor leads us through the ins and outs of your hives, then please let me know. I would like to set up a schedule, May through October, for once monthly demos spread throughout the Islands. We will cover the usual stuff, like Springtime hive inspections, supering, honey harvesting, hive splitting & combining, feeding bees and putting them to bed for the winter, as well as any other topics that come up in your hives. First come first serve sounds fair to me, so please lets get the calendar set up so that we can spread the word! Your hives must be in the Islands to host a demo.

2009 Beekeeping Demos at Blue Heron Farm

Adam Farris & Christine Bourque, the owners of Blue Heron Farm in Grand Isle, have been kind enough to host beekeeping demos this summer with the 5 hives I have in their fields. The bees are about 1/3 of a mile walk from the parking area, and all are welcome! We ask that you please bring your own protective gear as extras are limited, and to remember that this is a working farm!

Sunday 6/14 at noon: Russ Aceto will lead us through a mite workshop - identifying evidence of mites & taking action. Raindate is 6/21

Sunday 7/19 at noon: Ross Conrad will discuss supering, honey harvesting, overwintering - and is open to our questions!

Sunday 8/23 4:30 pm: Bill Mares on honey harvesting, treating for mites, combining hives, and whatever else comes up. Beginners welcome!

Sunday 9/27  Cancelled : RAIN DATE 10/03 AT NOON!! Russ Aceto will help us prepare the hives for winter. We will also be combining hives!
